Mappedin Doubles in Size and Announces Move to Waterloo and 13,000 sqft of Newly Renovated Office Space

Waterloo, ON (July 30, 2018) - Mappedin, the leading provider of indoor GIS and wayfinding, announced today its move from Downtown Kitchener to 13,000 sqft of newly renovated office space in Waterloo. The company, which serves some of the world’s leading REITs and mall owners has experienced dramatic growth since it was founded in 2011, with employee numbers swelling to 56, representing a nearly 50% annual growth in staff numbers over the past year. With more growth on the horizon, it was time for the company to more than double its square footage, says Mappedin Founder and CEO Hongwei Liu. Mappedin was represented and assisted in the move by commercial real estate firm Whitney & Company Realty Ltd.

“Our new office space is a perfect fit for where and who we are a business today and who we’ll be in the future,” says Liu. “In selecting our new home, Waterloo was the top pick. It’s close to home for many of our employees, offers conveniences such as free parking, and is nearby to both University of Waterloo and Laurier University, making the location very convenient for co-op students.”

Initially the 410 Albert Street location, formerly occupied by IBM, seemed stale and dated, ill-suited to one of Waterloo Region’s fastest-growing start-ups. However, the team at Whitney was able to help Liu and his team make the space their own, by stripping it back and rebuilding it to reflect Mappedin’s brand and culture.

Mappedin’s new 13,000 sqft space includes:

• Bright décor with pops of orange and a mapping graffiti made possible by local designer Stephanie Scott
• Moss wall displaying 5x5 foot MappedIn logo
• Plenty of large and small meeting rooms
• Lounge area
• Two kitchens for ease of employee access and a community style lunch room
• Bike storage
• Planned rock climbing wall

Whitney also helped Mappedin staff make the transition from DTK to Waterloo by bringing in unique food options including a once a week visit from food trucks and a daily catering service with fresh food options for employees to purchase.
